LEGACY FOUNDATION

Duluth Edison Charter Schools Legacy Foundation: Carrying on the Traditions

Our Mission

The Duluth Edison Charter Schools Legacy Foundation represents a community-based effort to build partnerships and assets in order to provide supplemental funding, independent of the school budget, to enrich and extend the education of students of the Duluth Public Schools Academy, also known as Duluth Edison Charter Schools.

Our Purpose

We have partnered with the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation to provide academic enrichment for the maximum number of students possible. We hope to strengthen these students through requested educational programs and opportunities for generations to come.

Our History

The Duluth Edison Charter Schools was established the fall of 1997 with the creation of Kenwood Edison Charter School and Edison Central Junior Academy. The Junior Academy moved to a new building in the fall of 1999 and became Washburn Edison. This same year Raleigh Edison opened their doors in West Duluth. In 2011 the Kenwood and Washburn building combined at a new location – North Star Academy – as a K-8 school. Our Raleigh building continues as a K-5 building in West Duluth. Together, these two schools form the Duluth Public Schools Academy, Charter School Number 4020, also known as Duluth Edison Charter School.
